To celebrate its 100th anniversary, 3M is looking back at “A Century in Innovation,” including its respiratory protection products.

In May 1972, 3M scientists created the first 3M government-certified respirator, the 3M Single Use Respirator 8710. As a result of combining filtration technologies and blown microfiber capabilities, this respirator set the stage for 3M’s family of respiratory protection products, according to the company.
