ISCT Makes Waves In Clearwater

The ISCT trade show saw a good deal of traffic

The International Society of Cleaning Technicians returned to Clearwater, Fla. for its 2002 Convention, Trade Show and Annual Meeting, themed "ISCT Forecast: Clean and Dry," July 23-27. The sledgehammer humidity of the Gulf Coast summer could not quell the spirits of attendees and exhibitors who took advantage of an educational lineup devoted to addressing real-world cleaning situations and restoration scenarios.

Following a day of meetings by the ISCT membership and the board of directors, early arrivals had Wednesday to themselves and took advantage of the many outdoor opportunities to be found in the seaside community. That evening the "Beach Bash" welcome reception set up shop on the sand, providing an evening of food, drink and casual conversation that lasted long after the sun disappeared over the horizon.

Thursday morning saw ISCT CEO Bill Yeadon, Executive Director Linda Kanouse and President Ruth Travis welcome attendees who had traveled from both near and far. Keynote Speaker Michael A. Berry, a research professor at the University of North Carolina and a former deputy director with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, wove a serious, straightforward tale of "Clean and Dry: Keys to Keeping the Indoor Environment Healthy," a timely and convention theme-conscious topic.

Jeff Bishop and ISCT CEO Bill Yeadon share a laugh.
The seminar lineup was filled with a number of industry experts speaking on a wide range of topics. Lonnie McDonald, president and CEO of Leather Pro and Integrity Carpet Cleaning in Grandview, Mo., examined leather and leather cleaning with "The Feel of the Future: Leather Guru." Long-time industry veteran Bob Wittkamp's "Mrs. Piffleton, Do You Want the Furniture Moved?" took a look at how the simplest questions can impact customer service, profits and a company's future. And one of the preeminent names in the restoration field, Jeff Bishop, held court with a fast-paced, in-depth seminar on "The Deodorant-Disinfectant Dilemma: Principles, Concepts, and Techniques for Using Deodorants and Disinfectants."

These speakers and many others provided an educational backdrop for the convention's other main attraction, the industry trade show. More than 50 companies displayed their latest product innovations, giving some sneak previews at what the cleaning and restoration industry can expect to see in the coming years.

Seminar attendees get an earful.
The convention wrapped up Saturday evening with the "Bid Farewell" live auction cocktail party.

The 2003 ISCT Convention, Trade Show and Annual Meeting will be held in High Point, NC at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center, June 17-21.
