Editorial Comment: Get A Jump Start on Spring Cleaning

Get ready for the new season with spring cleaning promos, mailers and phone calls.

Well here we are into the second month of the new millennium. The holiday frenzy has subsided and the streets are no longer panic driven. You finally have the chance to hang up your tools, kick off your work shoes, and relax by the fireside with a shot of single malt scotch in one hand, and a pipe in the other. Reality check!

According to my calendar, February is only a month away from spring. Get busy and get noticed! Call your referral customers, mail out those reminders (even by e-mail), start pre-booking, explain how getting a jump on spring cleaning will benefit them, and so on.

I’d also like to take a moment to welcome Steve Toburen, CR, to our esteemed corral of columnists. He is well known throughout the industry for his expertise, and the willingness to share it. Also in this month’s issue is a timely and essential feature thoroughly researched and written by Carl Williams, How To Protect Your Cleaning Company When Hiring Employees. Carpet cleaning/floor care employers can be held legally responsible for wrongful acts carried out by their employees. To that affect, Carl provides solid advice of what you can, can’t and should do to avoid legal problems when interviewing and doing applicant background/reference checks.
