Several cleaning associations have taken steps to collect funds earmarked for the American Red Cross for relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the World Trade Center and Pentagon tragedies.

SCOTIA, NY -- Several cleaning associations have taken steps to collect funds earmarked for the American Red Cross, funding which will be directed toward financial support for relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the World Trade Center and Pentagon tragedies, as well as the plane that crashed in western Pennsylvania.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (www.iicrc.org), Vancouver, Wash., the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration Foundation, Inc. (www.ascr.org), Millersville, Md., and the International Sanitary Supply Association, Inc. (www.issafoundation.com), Lincolnwood, Ill, have all announced that they will contribute toward relief efforts following the Tuesday, Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the United States.

According to IICRC Executive Director Kenway Meade, the organization's Board of Directors was to meet Sept. 13 to vote to contribute toward relief and recovery efforts. He said they will make their presentation through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), which will direct the contribution to the American Red Cross.

"We are making a donation," he said. "I can't give a dollar figure yet. But it will be a pretty good one, and it will all be done through our Board of Directors."

ASCR Executive Director Larry Jacobson said his organization also will contribute funds through ASAE. "That's just one of several places," he said.

Cliff Zlotnick, CR, ASCR senior vice president, added that the organization also will make donations toward the Widows and Orphans Fund and for firefighters.

The ISSA Foundation is working with the American Red Cross to mobilize financial support for the relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the tragedies in New York City, the Pentagon and the plane that crashed in Western Pennsylvania.

ISSA and its members have initiated the funding of the ISSA Foundation Red Cross Fund with a contribution of $50,000. Those of you wishing to make additional contributions should make your checks payable to the ISSA Foundation Red Cross Fund, 7373 N. Lincoln Avenue, Lincolnwood, Ill., 60712. The ISSA Foundation will aggregate the entire proceeds from ISSA member companies and will present them to the American Red Cross as a collective representation of financial support from our industry.

Formed in 1972, IICRC serves as an independent, non-profit certification body to set and promote high standards and ethics, and to advance communication and technical proficiency within the inspection, cleaning and restoration service industry.

The ASCR is a trade association comprised of firms who perform cleaning and restoration services ranging from cleaning carpet, upholstery, draperies and rugs to the restoration of interior and exterior contents, including HVAC systems, after a disaster has occurred. It has more than 1200 members.

ISSA includes more than 4,600 member companies from over 67 countries that manufacture, market, and distribute cleaning and maintenance products, equipment, chemicals, and related services to hospitals and other healthcare facilities, schools, factories, foodservice establishments, corporate complexes, commercial businesses and other industrial/institutional facilities worldwide.
