Stamford, Conn. (PRNewswire) -- Driven by their concern that Fairfield County janitors are being treated unjustly, five state legislators are planning to stop traffic outside the Stamford Train Station tomorrow as commuters hurry off to jobs at the blue chip companies headquartered here.

Fairfield County janitors have been on strike since October 2. They are seeking living wages, affordable health insurance, and full-time hours.

Negotiations between the janitors and the cleaning contractors who employ them broke down on Monday after the contractors offered raises that would leave the janitors in poverty. Negotiations are scheduled to resume today.

The striking janitors have received a wide variety of support from political, religious and community leaders. Nearly two dozen state politicians including Speaker Moira Lyons participated in a one-day fast Monday in honor of six janitors who have launched a hunger strike.

Over a dozen Fairfield County clergy representing all the major denominations conducted a sit-in on Tuesday at GE Capital's headquarters in Stamford where janitors are on strike.
