The 2000 ISSA International Convention, held Oct. 11-14 in Atlanta, Ga., opened its doors to approximately 13,000 attendees from more than 67 countries. The convention started off with an exciting and energetic general session led by 2000 ISSA President Linda Silverman. Silverman spoke about the show’s continued growth and the advancements that are making technology such an important part of business today.

Silverman introduced keynote speakers Mary Matalin and James Carville, authors of “All’s Fair: Love, War & Running for President.” The couple gave a speech that proved to be both lively and timely considering the presidential debates that took place the night before the session. In their speeches, the husband and wife team talked about the growing importance of technology in our society and the exciting and important changes happening in the country. The general session in many ways reflected the atmosphere and direction of the convention itself.

The movement towards integrating Internet technology into the cleaning industry was apparent by the booths at the convention featuring such online services as and seminars such as Strategies in a Dotcom World led by Dr. Roger Blackwell. With 607,500 square feet showcasing more than 750 exhibits, the 2000 ISSA Convention reflected the forward movement and growth that the industry is experiencing.

The 2000 ISSA Convention offered new products, seminars, and a chance for people in the industry to come together, share ideas, and do business. Another sentiment expressed at the convention by exhibitors and attendees alike was the idea that the cleaning industry maintains its roots in customer service and that service is to effectively clean and improve the quality of the world around us.

Next year, the 2001 ISSA Convention will be open to end-users and will take place Oct. 16-19 in Orlando, Fla.
