It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of Gary Berg, who owned and operated American Beauty Carpet Care Systems, Litchfield, Minn. Known as “G7” to his family on the ICS bulletin board, Gary could be relied on for sharing his knowledge and wisdom with anyone.

In his honor, a memorial has been set up to assist carpet cleaners in need. Donations may be made to the Gary Berg Fund, care of Cindy Graham, 449 Terrace View Drive, Litchfield, MN 55355.

Additionally, there are two carpet-cleaning industry leaders who are running for all of our lives and they are Tom Hill and Barry Costa. Barry’s 19-year-old daughter Kimberly recently passed away due to cancer. She was an active young woman who believed that to have a full life, you should touch as many lives as you can.

It is in her honor that Barry and Tom will be participating in the “Team in Training” program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They will also be running for four-year-old Kyla Anderson, also battling leukemia. It is an open marathon, which means that if you want to run, you can. To make a contribution, include Tom and Barry’s names, and mail your donation to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 6501 S.W. Macadamia Ave., Portland, OR 97201.

I want to personally extend my respect and admiration to everyone who pulled together for Gary and Kimberly, as well as their families. The human spirit is alive and well, and we have all become humbled by it.

Finally, as part of its goal to increase knowledge and camaraderie within the industries it serves, we at ICS would like to see submissions for a new monthly section that will feature you, our reader. Here’s what you need to do: Submit photos of yourself next to your truck or van, with a list of products, chemicals and equipment you regularly use. Also, we want to know something about you, so include a short biography, and any “tricks of the trade” you would like to share. Send all submissions to: ICS Magazine, Attn: Arpi Nalbandian, 22801 Ventura Blvd., Suite 115, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
