On Jan. 5, 2006, IMACC, in cooperation with Dri-Eaz, ignited a controlled fire in the Dri-Eaz National Training Facility Demonstration Home in Nashville.

The cause of the fire was the deliberate burning of an estimated 12 pounds of cedar, pine, carpet pad, pvc drain pipe, cardboard, paper, butyl rubber, various plastics and misc. organic materials. The fire burned for 15 minutes consuming 90% of the material in the enclosed home environment, resulting in heavy smoke. The fire was extinguished with approximately 500 gallons of water, creating steam, acidic smoke and residues that permeated the entire structure.

After the fire was extinguished, restoration contractors waited 24 hours before beginning aggressive mitigation. It was demonstrated how time is the enemy that drives loss severity and how we can reduce nearly any average fire loss by at least 20% to 40%, inclusive of the costs of mitigation.

The results were astounding when comparing the same items with the equal exposure to smoke and water cleaned at 24 hours, 72 hours, and 10 days

IMACC, based in Naperville, IL, is dedicated to linking the best insurers with the best mitigation and restorative contractors through training, powerful communication and informational technologies.
