Peterborough, Canada-November 12, 2007-With the growing concerns about MRSA along with the recent news reports, Enviro-Solutions has added MRSA fact sheets to their Web site to help advise their distributors and customers how to prevent and detect the deadly disease.

Although MRSA, which stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, has been a problem for several years, it normally occurs in hospitals and nursing homes but now appears to be taking hold in more community-based places such as sports centers, schools, and gyms.

MRSA is a bacteria that normally causes skin infections. However, it has become resistant to penicillin and most other antibiotics. Most people can make a full recovery with treatment if the infection is caught early. But if the bacteria gets into the bloodstream through a cut, for instance, and treatment has been delayed or the person has a weak immune system, it can lead to severe illness and death.

The seriousness of the problem came to light in October 2007 when a student at a New York City intermediate school became ill and died in a relatively short period of time.

The MRSA fact sheets, which is located in the “What’s New” section of the Enviro-Solutions Web page, educates visitors about the disease, including:
  • What it looks like
  • How it is transmitted and where
  • Treatment options
  • How to prevent it
