Green is Everywhere at Can Clean 2008

Toronto, Ontario, April 7, 2008 --- Canadian cities are going green. Automotive manufacturers are going green. Canadians are doing their part every day by composting, recycling and going green, and there’s even a green living show this month in Toronto where consumers learn everything about the green lifestyle. It’s no surprise then, that Canada’s sanitation sector is in forefront of the green revolution. Cleaning products are everywhere in our lives – where we work, learn, worship, play and very importantly, where we go for health care. Environmentally responsible cleaning products will be prominently featured at Can Clean 2008, the Canadian Sanitation Supply Association’s (CSSA) annual trade show that takes place on April 30th and May 1st in Toronto.

The show theme is “Environmentally Preferred Productivity” and exhibitors will show industry members how to meet the demands of their customers with cost-effective products that are environmentally responsible. The sanitation sector is worth in excess of $2 billion a year to the Canadian economy and more than 50,000 Canadians are employed in the industry. Cleaning products used in the sanitation industry can have a major environmental impact. That’s why hundreds of green cleaning products will exhibited at Can Clean 2008 by many of the more than 135 manufacturers and distributors from across Canada and the U.S. It’s the largest trade show of its kind in Canada and attracts more than 4,000 delegates who will find the newest and most innovative cleaning products available today on the show floor.

In addition to all that’s happening on the exhibit floor, a series of dynamic seminars will inform delegates about green cleaning and how they can be more productive in today’s green environment. Seminar topics include “It’s Not Clean If It’s Not Green”, “Green Cleaning in Schools” and “Healthy Indoor Environments through Science.”

Then there are the free on-floor exhibitor demonstrations. This year, all the products featured are green and have green applications.

It may not sound exotic, but every major office should have one. It’s a floor scrubber that uses 50 percent less water than other models and 50 percent fewer chemicals. It offers a 40 percent increase in scrub pad life and its battery lasts 25 percent longer than older models. It’s even low noise, producing only 65 decibels. Another innovative product sounds like something from NASA - an environmentally friendly office steamer that uses chemical free steam vapour and cleans with Thermal Accelerated Nano Crystal Sanitation, producing results thousands of times better than current disinfection methods.

There are floor pads made of 100 percent recycled fiber from plastic bottles; a BioRenewable glass cleaner that is a non-VOC, less toxic, biodegradable and contains 81 percent bio-based material from renewable plant and animal resources; and MicroFibre wiping cloths made from recycled material that reduce the need for chemicals and trap or remove soil instead of spreading it around.

How about a carpet cleaner that uses less water or a Kyoto-compliant low carbon footprint degreaser? Along with dozens of other products, they will be demonstrated before an appreciative audience at Can Clean 2008.

Admittance to Can Clean 2008 is free to CSSA members and end users of sanitary maintenance products. The Direct Energy Centre is conveniently located near downtown and close to major highways. There are acres of indoor and outdoor parking and the facility is served by public transit.
