VANCOUVER, Wash. – Oct. 20, 2009 – The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) announces the formation of the Consensus Body Standard Committee for the S600 Carpet Installation Standard and Reference Guide.  The committee, co-chaired by James Mullins of Shaw Industries and Barry Costa of Aspire Educational Institute, is responsible for drafting the carpet installation standard.

“This committee is made up of people directly and materially affected by the standard,” said vice-chair Barry Costa. “After reviewing more than 100 written applications for membership consideration for the consensus body, we are confident that we have a strong committee representing all areas of the carpet chain.”

The 22-member consensus body will meet approximately four times per year, and most of the work will be done online and via conference calls. The first in-person meeting took place Oct. 12 – 13 in Atlanta.

The new standard for carpet installation is being sponsored by the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) and the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). Timeline for its completion is 36 months.

The IICRC is still looking for industry volunteers for working chapter committees.  All of those who submitted a written application for the consensus body but are not part of the consensus body are invited to be part of a working chapter committee. Applications should be submitted to committee chair James Mullins (james.mullins@shawinc.com) or vice- chair Barry Costa (barry@aspire-centre.com), or by contacting IICRC headquarters at 360-693-5675.

The members of the Consensus Body Standard Committee for the S600 Carpet Installation Standard and Reference Guide are: chair James Mullins of Shaw Industries; vice-chair Barry Costa of Aspire Educational Institute; Jim Walker of Certified Floor Covering Installers Association; Robert Varden of SeamMaster Industries; John McGrath, Jr. of INSTALL; Jack Dean of INSTALL; Kenneth Rigmaiden of International Union of Painters & Allied Trades; David Romero of So. Cal. Resilient Floor & Decorative Covering JATC; Robert Blochinger of Blochinger-Shepard Associates; Grace Gilbreath of XL Brands; David Barkstedt of Elite Consultants, Inc.; Sim Crisler of LGM & Associates Technical Flooring Services; Lee Phillips of Professional Testing, Inc.; Greg Raborn of Beaulieu of America; Bruce Gentry of Mohawk Industries; Ken McIntosh of the Carpet & Rug Institute; David Wardlaw of Tai Ping Carpets; Carey Mitchell of Shaw Industries; Tom Jennings of World Floor-Covering Association; Fred Williamson, Jr. of Starnet Worldwide; and Richard Bodo of Windsor Industries. IICRC Standards Consultant Larry Cooper is a non-voting member advising on and overseeing the policies and procedures.
