The Phenomenal 747 Business Model - Part III

So far in this series, I have shared that the first “7” in the 747 Business Model stands for the 7 Areas of a Phenomenal Life, and that the “4” stands for the 4 Pillars of a Phenomenally Successful Business. Finally, the second “7” stands for the 7 Steps of Implementation and the first of these steps is “Inspiration.”





So far in this series, I have shared that the first “7” in the 747 Business Model stands for the 7 Areas of a Phenomenal Life, and that the “4” stands for the 4 Pillars of a Phenomenally Successful Business.

Finally, the second “7” stands for the 7 Steps of Implementation and the first of these steps is “Inspiration.” You can see last month’s column to get completely caught up, but here are the 7 Steps of Implementation:

 

Step 1: Inspiration - Stay inspired by keeping your mind on a compelling vision of what and why you are doing what you are doing.

 

Step 2: Quick-Start - This step is about getting things moving now. Once you have a vision, you should have the energy to go and just start doing the things that you know you “should” be doing but haven’t. Would you agree that if you did only what you already know to do, you would be infinitely more successful? You bet you would!


Step 3: Tracking - This step is about determining where you are now. Run your sales reports, income statements, sales closing rates, re-services, production hours and anything else you can think of. Track your personal time. What did you spend your time doing? The more you track, the better off you are.

 

Step 4: Goals - Once you know where you are (through tracking), you can set your goals. How do you want your personal schedule to change? How do you want your numbers to be different? Set specific goals in each area. Remember that your vision (arriving at your ultimate destination) depends upon it!

 

Step 5: Plans - This is the how you are going to get there. Too often we talk about systems and strategies (the how) before we even know where we want to go! How is the third question, not the first. The first is “Where do you want to go?” The second is “Why do you want to go there?” Once you settle that (and truly make a firm decision), then you lay your plans.

 

Step 6: Systems - This step is the one that will help you stay where you want to be. Once you take action on your plans and you see what worked and what didn’t, you systematize what works. Have specific ways you do things even if you are a solo operator. There is a right time and a right place to do each thing you need to do. The discipline to replay the success formula day in and day out comes from the energy you should be getting from your vision. If you find that difficult, go back to Step 1.

 

Step 7: Leadership - Your biggest dreams in life won’t be realized because you spent your entire career doing everything yourself. Learn the skill of leadership. This step is all about getting others to help you get where you want to go.

 

Far too often we view employees as some kind of “necessary evil.” I thank God for my staff every day because having them allows me to pursue my dreams in life. And here’s another hidden gem: By learning the skill of leadership, helping others grow in your company is an awesome opportunity!

Nothing makes me happier than to see my staff grow personally and professionally.

Now that’s pretty heavy, but when you think about it, it’s true. Here’s why:

He also says that “leadership is influence. Nothing more, nothing less.” Every day you are in a position to influence others - a prospect to a sale, a client to accept information, a staff member to do what you want them to do.

All of business is about relationships and being a positive influence in others lives strengthens that relationship. If all of business is about relationships and leadership is required to build and maintain relationships, I suppose everything does rise and fall on leadership.

So do yourself a favor and pick up some of John Maxwell’s books and grow yourself and grow others. You’ll be glad you did.
