Cleaning & Restoration Association News

News and Views from ARCS

July 2, 2012
The Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS) will begin offering memberships to individuals and companies in several allied industry categories beginning July 1, 2012. The expanded membership program was approved by the association’s board of directors in late May.
Allied industry members will be welcome to participate in all of the association’s events and courses, but will not have voting rights. ARCS provides educational opportunities to all levels of rug care professionals. Its entry-level course is conducted online and covers topics such as basic rug identification and rug cleaning. A three-day intermediate level course includes topics such as rug manufacturing techniques and identifying and cleaning specialty rugs. The Certified Rug Specialist program is for experienced professionals and focuses on advanced technical study of Oriental and specialty rugs.
“Establishing associate membership categories is a natural next step in the evolution of our association,” said ARCS President Bill Foulds. “One mission of ARCS is to cultivate relationships with leaders in rug care-related industries as a way to work with them to advance the art and science of rug care and educate rug care professionals. All of us will benefit from a stronger rug care industry.”
Associate memberships will be open to any company that sells products or services to ARCS members. These companies include, but are not limited to rug and equipment manufacturers, suppliers of cleaning products, appraisers, dealers, designers and consultants.
A “Legacy Membership” category is available to those rug care specialists who are no longer active in the industry, but want to continue their involvement in industry affairs. “Rug care specialists from the previous generation are an incredible source of information and knowledge that will be invaluable to future generations of rug cleaners,” said Foulds. “Establishing Legacy Memberships is the perfect way to capture and share their knowledge and also honor them for their many contributions to our industry.”
Individual memberships are available to rug care specialists who are not currently affiliated with an ARCS member firm, but want to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the association. Regular ARCS memberships are available only to companies.
Annual dues for associate and individual members will be $600. Annual dues for Legacy Members will be $200. Additional information on the ARCS allied industry membership and educational programming is available at
