Craig Jasper is an IICRC-approved instructor and Master Textile Cleaner, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer, Master Water Restorer. He currently serves as the first vice president and head of the marketing committee for the IICRC.

How would you best sum up the last 50 years (or the time that you’ve been a part) of the carpet cleaning/restoration industry?

In the last 50 years there have been tremendous advancements in technology. Understanding soil, contamination, health issues, tremendous advancements in equipment as well as techniques and industrious leaders stepping forth.

In your opinion, what have been some of the most significant events and milestones to impact the industry over the past 50 years? What about some of the most significant people?

Ed York was the Zig-Ziglar of the cleaning and restoration industry - many of his ideas were many years ahead of his time. Paul Davis did the same for restoration. Lee Pemberton brought training to new levels. Charismatic leaders such as Ralph Bloss and Bill Bane brought enthusiasm and energized our industry.

As far as associations go, Cecil Threadway and his father made tremendous strides in uniting our industry. There are far too many to mention, Francis VonSchrader, Murray Kramer, all were great trainers.

What are some of your fondest memories of being involved in the industry in years past?

My most memorable moments have been with all the cleaning and restoration contractors throughout my short time. The members of this industry are unique - they are the salt of the earth. We get more thrill and pleasure out of doing a good job than the money we make for doing it.

Moving forward, what do you see in store for the cleaning/restoration industry’s future?

Even more advancements in chemistry and equipment, but much more than that, all of the cleaning industries are uniting. (Also) setting standards and striving towards unification.
