Kenway Mead served as the Executive Director of the IICRC from 1984-2001 prior to Tom Hill, who currently serves in that capacity.

How would you best sum up the last 50 years (or the time that you’ve been a part) of the carpet cleaning/restoration industry?

I saw the IICRC go from next to nothing and zero recognition to the size, impact and importance it is now. The standard setting was what really put IICRC on the map.

In your opinion, what have been some of the most significant events and milestones to impact the industry over the past 50 years? What about some of the most significant people?

Some of the most significant people in the advancement of the IICRC have been Larry Cooper, Dane Gregory, Dan Bernazzani and Jeff Bishop. In earlier years, Eric Rottmeister and Mike Lynch, along with these guys, worked so long and hard as volunteers to our industry.

What are some of your fondest memories of being involved in the industry in years past?

Connections was very meaningful to me, especially receiving the first Connections Leadership Award. Having the name of the award become the Kenway Mead Leadership Award has been one the highlights of my life.
