The Value of Conferences and Trade Shows

Conferences and trade shows continue to play an important role in our industry. Even as it becomes easier to connect digitally, something magical happens when we are all in a room face-to-face. When hundreds or even thousands gather together at a conference and trade show (as we hope will soon be the case as we work with like-minded organizations to support each others’ Memorandums of Understandings) to share what’s new and effective in the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries, the excitement is infectious. As I’ve said before, this group is the most passionate group I’ve ever worked with and this enthusiasm is often most evident at our industry trade shows.

The IICRC has long been involved in a variety of conferences and trade shows, such as Surfaces, Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA), National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), Restoration Industry Association (RIA), etc., as each show provides a range of valuable opportunities to find new and better ways of doing business and building consensus within the industry. Conferences and trade shows are also an invaluable educational experience as the best in the industry come together to discuss “what’s next” and how to continually improve our businesses and emphasize professionalism and certification.

As part of our continued commitment to our partner organizations, the IICRC Board of Directors is looking forward to hosting our spring Certification Council meeting on April 22 around the RIA Conference at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on April 23-25. This collaboration is part of what demonstrates how organizations work together.

To complement existing industry conferences and trade shows, the International Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Council of Associations (IICRCA) is in the early stages of collaboration with our council of associations and professional suppliers for its own annual trade show. Recognizing that this is the time of year when most manufacturers and suppliers plan their yearly trade show participation, budget and personnel allocations, the IICRCA has selected by an RFP selection process, a certified, professional conference and trade show management company - Event Planning Concepts. Everything we’re doing and planning around the association and the conference and trade show is designed with one thing in mind: What will benefit our members and suppliers the most while delivering the best content for the show?

In the next few months, the IICRCA will be reaching out to solicit exhibitor input through conference calls and surveys to ensure that our trade show is a good value for our exhibitors’ investment of time and capital. If we attract the right exhibitors, we can ensure that our members and all who attend will have a valuable experience.

As we continue to build out our conference and trade show and attend other industry events, I look forward to seeing more of you face-to-face. Many from the IICRCA were grateful to attend the March IAQA conference in Orlando, which I can personally confirm was a success. We will also be attending the RIA later this month, April 23-25 in Las Vegas. When we get together, our passion and dedication to our industry has the power to promote a high professional standard of care, resulting from advanced communication, collaboration and technical expertise.
