Two local women claim they suffered serious allergic reactions to wet carpet in Dee Why library.

Last weekend the Warringah Council library flooded when the downpipe overflowed during torrential rain.

Pamela Godfrey of Seaforth and Lis Raillon of Narraweena went to Dee Why library on Wednesday but were quickly forced to leave.

“If you ever hear of a flood, what people do is rip up the carpet because it is not just the carpet but also the underlay where spores, bacteria and fungi could become a health hazard,” Ms Godfrey said.

While not confirming if any chemicals had been used, a spokeswoman for Warringah Council said an external carpet cleaning company was called in to clean and dry the carpets. From The Manly Daily.
