ASCR kicks off WTC, Pentagon victim relief effort

The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration Foundation has kicked off a relief effort for victims of the Tueday, Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

MILLERSVILLE, Md. -- Late Friday, Sept. 14, the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR) Executive Committee met in emergency session to discuss a fund raising drive to benefit those who have been irreparably victimized by the tragic and criminal events of Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The ASCR (www.ascr.org) Board of Directors has directed Executive Director Larry Jacobson to organize a fund drive that will give "every nickel we collect, without any overhead charge whatsoever, to charity," Jacobson said.

Jacobson told ICS Cleaning Specialist that, "The board has come to a decision. ASCR, or the ASCR Foundation, will act as a fund-raiser for both Red Cross and the Salvation Army, so we'll collect donations from our members and others. We also will match the first $5000 that comes in with a $5000 donation from ASCR."

The board selected the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army as the two trustworthy organizations to receive the donations.

ASCR had announced it would collect emergency relief funding, which it would funnel through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Since ASCR already owns a public charitable foundation, "there is no reason for us to process donations through any third party," said Jacobson.

"Rather than to doing it through ASAE, we'll do it ourselves because we're already a foundation," Jacobson told ICS Cleaning Specialist. "It would be silly to go from one foundation to another. We can go directly to those organizations. The ASCR Foundation will act as the marshalling and distribution point."

If you would like to make a donation to the Red Cross or to the Salvation Army you can do so by: Writing a check to the ASCR Foundation and clearly mark it for victim relief; write a check to the American Red Cross; or write a check to the Salvation Army.

Send your checks in US Funds to: ASCR Foundation, 8229 Cloverleaf Drive Suite 460, Millersville, Md., 21108.

The ASCR is a trade association comprised of firms who perform cleaning and restoration services ranging from cleaning carpet, upholstery, draperies and rugs to the restoration of interior and exterior contents, including HVAC systems, after a disaster has occurred. It has more than 1200 members.
