The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration has presented the Phoenix Award, its highest honor for innovation in restoration, to Rolyn Construction Corp. of Rockville, Md.
"The Phoenix Award for Innovation in Restoration is presented each year to recognize one project from a host of outstanding candidates," Gary Dooner, ASCR vice president of education, said. "It exemplifies the complement of skills required to restore a project to a pre-loss condition."
This year's project involved a 27-story office building in Florida damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. More than 1,000 panes of vision and spandrel glass were blown out. Specialized equipment was brought in from as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio to correctly rig two surfaces of the building so that broken window openings could be boarded up and waterproofed.
