PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR) held its 57th Annual Convention and Exhibition last week at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, Calif., and enjoyed a record attendance at a convention held a full month earlier than in previous years.

According to ASCR spokesperson Patricia L. Harman, "Solutions -- The Education Summit"--a name that reflects the ASCR Foundation's focus on education for all aspects of the industry--sold more than 116 booths and pre-registered more than 400 members. Additionally, more than 200 day visitors attended the convention, which ran Tuesday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 16.

According to outgoing ASCR president Cliff Zlotnik, "The variety of programs this year is tremendous." Programs ranged from the state of the industry, indoor air quality, water damage and microbial remediation to hiring, training and retaining good employees.

Seminars included 'Selling Commercial Carpet Maintenance,' with Terry Savage III, of Pioneer Cleaning Services; 'Update on the IAQ Industry & the Role of Mold in the Indoor Environment, Ed Light, Building Dynamics, Inc.; and 'The Consultant's Perspective on Microbial Remediation,' with Harry Neill, 1Source Safety and Health, Inc.

The ASCR Foundation also sponsored a golf tournament on Feb. 12 at the Mesquite Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California.
