BISSELL Earns Champion Status in EPA's Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., December 17, 2008 - BISSELL Homecare, Inc. announced that the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Design for the Environment (DfE) program awards BISSELL Champion status in their Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI). The SDSI recognizes environmental leaders who voluntarily commit to the use of safer surfactants.

Champion status is the highest level of recognition offered under SDSI. Recipients are invited to an awards ceremony, are listed on the EPA SDSI Web site as a Champion and are granted rights to use a special logo in their product literature to help explain their participation in the program.

“BISSELL continues to strive to make all of our products, including our floor cleaning chemicals, a little greener, having adopted the EPA’s DfE standards early in the program,” says Jim Krzeminski, BISSELL's executive vice president of product development, sales and marketing. “To be among the first companies to receive this award, it means a lot to be recognized for our accomplishments in developing sustainable products.”

BISSELL invests heavily in research, development and reformulation to ensure that their ingredients and finished products are better for families and the environment, while maintaining or improving product performance. BISSELL does not use phosphates, dyes, heavy metals and optical brighteners in their full-size deep-cleaning formulas, a practice which creates greener, more earth-friendly products.

BISSELL’s focus on sustainable business practices has resulted in the development and use of innovative new chemistries, biodegradable detergents, recyclable bottles and a minimum of 25 percent post-consumer resin, while still offering consumers the same great cleaning and protection they need in their busy lives.
