Cleaners get hands-on at a carpet repair clinic
CFI members from the Central Coast, Northern California and Nevada Chapters came together for a "Regional Education Day" at Gillespie's Abbey Center in Fairfield, Calif., a day of business building and hands-on workshops. Host Monte Hoover provided a catered lunch for all who attended.

The morning program began with a panel of CFI members sharing their successful marketing strategies with the attendees. Panelist Scott Miller of Elegant Thread Cleaning shared his latest issue of his company newsletter that had generated jobs the day after it dropped in the mail. Ambassador Cleaning Services' Albert Ong shared two similar ads and explained why one was outperforming the other by more than five times. Monte Hoover shared some of the cooperative marketing ventures that his 75-year-old company uses to generate a strong flow of new business.

IICRC instructor Steve Marsh was the featured speaker of the day. Steve shared the concepts behind "Relationship Marketing" and showed how any company can dramatically increase the quality, value and cleaning frequency of their best carpet-cleaning clients. Steve operates one of the most successful owner-operator companies in the nation, and he shared some of the tools and strategies that have helped him to create his part-time operation that pulls in full-time dollars.

The afternoon program was hands-on workshops that covered upholstery cleaning by Prochem's Tim Baker, carpet repair by Mike Perras, and spot removal techniques by CTI's Darrel Fronczak. The cleaners who attended mentioned how impressed they were with what they learned, and how they would be able go back to their businesses and implement the ideas right away.
