MorePortland, Ore. -- CNF Inc., a $6-billion management company of global supply chain services, has constructed its five-story, 252,000 sq. ft. technology center. The company will begin to move employees in this month. The new building was built on the existing administrative and technology (AdTech) campus and it will consolidate approx. 850 information technology personnel that are currently located at different buildings throughout the area into one, energy efficient facility.
The new building serves the company’s environmental and fiscal responsibilities because it uses energy and natural resources prudently. The building’s design and construction is projected to save $65,000 per year in energy costs. The construction of the building was a joint effort between the building designers and PGE environmental and energy consultants. The building is expected to use 29% less energy each year in the office portion of the building than one built to Oregon Energy Code. In addition to energy-saving properties, the building was constructed using recycled materials. Countertops are made up of recycled concrete and rubber flooring is made from recycled tires.
Yet, perhaps the building's most important environmental features are the ones that enhance the quality of the indoor environment. The mechanical ventilation system contains fresh-air economizers with intake ports on every floor which provide natural cooling and fresh air.
