LOWELL, Mass., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DuPont was inducted today into the American Textile Hall of Fame at the American Textile History Museum.

Currently celebrating its 200th anniversary, DuPont was honored for its contributions toward improving the standard of living for millions of people worldwide by delivering comfort, safety, efficiency and convenience to the textile industry.

"It is an honor to receive such a noteworthy award. Through a two-century journey, DuPont has adapted to consumers' evolving needs and embraced research and innovation to become one of the world's most successful companies," said Steve McCracken, group vice president of DuPont Textiles & Interiors, the textiles unit of DuPont. "This honor is a great testament to the many ways DuPont has transformed the textile industry."

DuPont, the oldest industrial company listed on the Fortune 500, has been developing, producing and servicing quality products for consumers around the world since 1802. Entering its third century this year with 79,000 employees and operations in 70 nations, DuPont has invented some of the world's best-known innovations and technologies. DuPont began with gunpowder and currently is in markets ranging from food, electronics, safety and security, automotive and construction to its continuing efforts in apparel and home furnishings.

With its fibers heritage in rayon, DuPont led a textile transformation with leadership and discovery in nylon, spandex, polyester, acrylic, advanced nonwovens and aramids. The company's textiles and interiors units have evolved throughout the company's history to stay one step ahead of a constantly changing consumer market.
