The EPA for the first time gave its stamp of approval to a new home-use germ killer, disinfectant and antimicrobial against Salmonella cholerasuis, Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria, fungus and algae.

ATLANTA -- The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the first time gave its stamp of approval to a new home-use germ killer, disinfectant and antimicrobial against Salmonella cholerasuis, Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria, fungus and algae.

The product, developed by BioShield Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:BSTI) after years of testing, is effective against household germs and prevents the spread of harmful bacteria and cross contamination. Based on independent laboratory results, this new germ killer antimicrobial had shown 99.9999 percent efficacy against Salmonella cholerasuis, Staphylococcus aureus, Gram positive and negative bacteria, yeast and different types of fungus and algae at 2, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post application.

BioShield said that with this EPA/FIFRA approval, there is a very substantial market for the technology in different areas.

"This new approved label from the EPA will allow the company to offer our distributors and strategic partners a new germ killer and antimicrobial disinfectants with residual activity that no other company can offer," said Dr. Marcelo D. Villahoz BioShield vice president. "Several companies have already expressed interest on this new product to treat and disinfect areas around Ground Zero. This registration from the EPA will allow BioShield Technologies Inc. to ship immediately this germ killer and mold and mildew protector to different chemical companies and contractors."

The EPA's description of antimicrobials underlines the importance of antimicrobials in the U.S. society:

BioShield Technologies, Inc. is a Norcross, Ga.-based emerging growth company with several principal businesses. Its core business is committed to the discovery, development, marketing and sale of surface-modifying antimicrobial and biostatic products. Its antimicrobial technology is a revolutionary alternative to conventional sanitizers, disinfectants, bleaches, biocides or preservatives primarily because it kills microorganisms, on contact and can remain active for extended time periods.
