RACINE, Wis. -- HOST/Racine Industries, Inc., presented its HOST Schools in Saudi Arabia, an effort designed to show managers how to keep wool carpet clean and in continuous use. HOST also hosted its first-ever HOST School in Ireland.

"Because sand is so common to the Persian Gulf area, carpet cleaning success depends on an ability to extract it via vacuuming and cleaning," said HOST School director Geoffrey Greeley, who recently led schools and seminars for Host customers and prospects in Saudi Arabia and Ireland. "That sounds cliche, but it's a fact."

Nearly 60 students attended the two-day school held in Damman, Saudi Arabia, with 20 students attending seminars in Dublin and Cork, Ireland. Prior to hands-on practice, schools began instruction on fibers, how carpet is manufactured, and how that impacts cleaning and maintenance, Greeley said.

School sessions also included information on the soiling process -- what happens as sand and soil move further into a carpeted room, and how to clean and remove the soil follow.

"In the Saudi session we focused on prevention: How to control sand/soil at entry points and prevent it from getting tracked into building interiors," Greeley said. The session focused on maintenance planning -- how frequently to vacuum and use dry extraction cleaning, based on carpet usage -- then lead into the hands-on cleaning, he said.

Eagle International, the Host Distributor in Saudi Arabia, organized the school for their cleaning contractor, Al-Battal Trading & Contracting Corp., which maintains the headquarters and building campus of Aramco, largest oil company in the world. Aramco buildings feature high-quality wool carpets throughout.

In Ireland, Host Distributor Home & Office Cleaning organized a school in Dublin for Host contractors and a seminar in Cork for prospects.

Racine Industries, which manufactures the HOST Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaning System, launched the first intensive training program in the spring of 1978, to help professionals understand how carpet is made and how it can be maintained. The Host School now has grown to include a 5,000-square-foot, world-class facility located at the company's headquarters in Racine, Wis. In addition to the Host Schools taught at the headquarters facility, schools are held on the road throughout the U.S., and dozens of locations abroad, including countries throughout Europe, Asia and South America.
