IRVINE, Calif. --HomeBase, Inc. opened 17 House2Home(TM) home decorating superstores throughout greater Los Angeles over the Memorial Day weekend.

The openings are part of a planned phase out and conversion of its HomeBase-branded home improvement warehouses. The store openings mark the first two phases in House2Home's rollout of 37 additional stores.

The company said it expects to open 20 additional House2Home stores in June and July, and to complete its conversion program with a total of 42 House2Home stores in California, Arizona and Nevada.

``It was quite a weekend of festivities in our largest market and quite an accomplishment to have opened so many stores simultaneously,'' said Herbert Zarkin, chairman, president and chief executive officer. ``We are pleased at the tremendous turnout and the excellent reactions we have received from customers.''

Each House2Home store spans more than 100,000 square feet of retail space.
