IEHA Launches Field Lab Program

Columbus OH - Monday, April 22, 2011. The International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) has launched the High Performance Cleaning Product (HPCP) Field Lab Program in connection with the University of Washington, Seattle WA and the University of Massachusetts Lowell / TURI Lab, Lowell MA.

According to Beth Risinger, CEO and Executive Director of IEHA: “Methods and outcomes from lab and field testing are often quite different. IEHA and its partners, the University of Massachusetts Lowell / TURI Lab (UMass TURI), Lowell MA and the University of Washington (UW), Seattle WA, propose to better integrate lab and field testing approaches, surfaces tested and methods used in order to achieve more coordinated results, synergies, useful information, and credibility within IEHA’s High Performance Cleaning Product (HPCP) testing program for identifying greener, healthier and more effective cleaning products and processes.”

UW will serve as an official IEHA Field Lab and work in tandem with the Research Lab at UMass TURI using Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM) principles. The program will involve the following steps:
  1. During onsite visits to UW, partners will discuss how tests are conducted on both ends (field and lab) to see where and why outcome discrepancies exist and to eliminate or reconcile them if possible.
  2. Partners will share information from the lab to the field and the field to the lab to enable development of better test protocols.
  3. Partners will seek innovative ways to improve overall industry testing and propagate good data for UW, IEHA, UMass TURI and the cleaning and educational sectors at large.
Allen Rathey, president of The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) will serve as a representative of the IEHA and Beth Risinger, CEO and Executive Director of the IEHA, will be the point of contact for IEHA regarding the testing.

Dr. Jason Marshall and Heidi Wilcox, scientists at UMass TURI will be the point of contact for UMass TURI regarding the testing.

Gene Woodard, Director of the Building Services Department, Custodial Services and Recycling & Solid Waste, Facilities Services, University of Washington, Seattle WA will be the point of contact for UW regarding the testing.
