IICRC Oks microbial remediation, restoration certification

The IICRC Board of Directors approved the Microbial Remediation and Restoration (MRS) certification at its recent meeting.

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Board of Directors approved the Microbial Remediation and Restoration (MRS) Certification Courseat its recent meeting.

The MRS course aims to teach mold and sewage remediation techniques to professionals in property management, property restoration, Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) investigation, and related professions. The course emphasis will be placed on teaching mold and sewage remediation techniques to professionals who perform these procedures in the field.

Course graduates will have the ability to perform remediation services while protecting the health and safety of both workers and facility occupants.

"We created the Microbial Remediation and Restoration Certification in response to requests from certified firms and technicians," said IICRC President Lee Zimmerman. "There seems to be great demand for remediation services in recent years, and it made sense to offer the certification to our firms and technicians, who strive for optimal training in all areas."

Certification requires classroom study as well as hands-on procedures. Committee members are developing the course outline and exam questions, as well as instructor and school criteria. The intensive four-day course will be available in the spring.

The IICRC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1972 to set and promote high standards and ethics, and advance communication and technical proficiency within the inspection, cleaning and restoration services industry.
