IICRC Strengthens Certified Firm Program to Benefit Consumers

Vancouver, Wash. — All Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Certified Firms and new applicants will have to go through a more stringent process to earn and sustain eligibility to be part of the Certified Firm registry. The Board of Directors approved modifications to the Certified Firm program at the Fall Board Meeting in Seattle, Washington.

In response to hundreds of requests by consumers and Certified Firms, the Certified Firm Committee spent the last six months reviewing and redesigning the existing program to strengthen and increase its credibility.

“By establishing new requirements, Certified Firms will be held to higher standards, assuring consumers fair, high-quality services,” said Peter Masi, Chairman of the Certified Firm Committee. “It will be more difficult to earn and retain IICRC Certified Firm status.” New Certified Firm Requirements

Certified Firms have to provide an updated list of technicians and their IICRC certifications, a copy of the firm’s General Liability Insurance Certificate, a current business license, and a menu of services offered by the firm. Firms also must complete a redesigned application and sign and subscribe to a new Code of Ethics. New applicants will complete an application request in addition to the other requirements.

IICRC administrators review the applications individually and catalog the supplementary information so data on each firm can be cross-referenced, enabling the IICRC to act quickly and efficiently in the case of an infraction. The new program also contains a standardized procedure for addressing Certified Firm complaints. Certified Firm Benefits

Once approved, Certified Firms receive the following benefits:

Listing on the IICRC Database, Web site, Greenbook CD and referral system 800 number

Exclusive use of the IICRC registered trademark and logo

The ability to purchase IICRC brochures, decals, patches and publications

Marketing of IICRC Certified Firms and Technicians on a national level

Representation at industry trade shows and technical meetings

Web-based training opportunities for continued education
