ISSA Updates Companies About California VOC Regulations

The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) recently released an update to remind all companies who manufacture and/or distribute cleaning products in California that several product categories must come into compliance with the California VOC regulations effective Jan. 1, 2001. As of Jan. 1, 2001, California VOC limitations go into effect for carpet & upholstery cleaners, spot removers, and certain automotive products described as instant detailers.

The VOC limits for Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners are for aerosols – 7%VOC, non-aerosols (dilutables) – 0.1%VOC, and for non-aerosols (ready to use) – 3%VOC. The VOC limits for Spot Removers are for aerosols – 25%VOC and non-aerosols – 8%VOC. Products in these categories manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2001 must be manufactured in compliance with the VOC limitations. Products manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 2001, may be “sold, supplied, or offered for sale” for up to 3 years after the effective date even though the products exceed the VOC limitations.
