Much Ado About Everything!

The cleaning, maintenance and restoration industries were well represented and staked their claim during this first day of Surfaces 2001 as thousands flocked to the Sands Expo Center to see the latest products available to the floor covering industry.

Hundreds of exhibitors, many with large-scale, extravagant booths, attracted the attention of product- and information-hungry crowds.

Among the booths that commanded the highest attention in the maintenance and restoration industry was Chemspec with its elaborate set-up of products, demonstrations and technological advancements that included StoneTech Professional products.

Also commanding their fair share of attention were industry notables such as Prochem, Chemspec, Host, 3M, DuPont, as well as many others. When asked about the visible decline in attendance compared to Surfaces 2000, both

Claudia Ramirez of StoneTech Professional and Dave Ritterling of Prochem said the decline hadn’t hurt their foot traffic as both exhibits were receiving a large amount of interest from visitors.

Several industry associations, such as ASCR and the IICRC, were also well represented and enthusiastically receiving many visitors to their exhibits.

Those that missed the opportunity to see the debut of many new product lines truly missed an opportunity in education.

Education was definitely a hot topic today. The seminars received a high volume of registrants-- the increased volume of attendees was definitely noticeable. ICS columnist Tom Hill took center stage during the morning sessions in his presentation that addressed carpet maintenance as the missing link.

Floor Covering Installer magazine, sister publication to ICS’, held its own in a sold out session that featured a panel on “Troubleshooting Installation Problems.” Moderated by FCI editor Jeff Stouffer (seated, far left), the panel was comprised of industry veterans Ken Knudtzon, Ray Thompson Jr. and Joe Grady.
