Munters Corp. has sold 12 customized dehumidification systems for removing heavy water from the reactor buildings of the Pickering Nuclear Power Station of Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of North America's largest power producers.

AMESBURY, Mass. -- Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of North America's largest power producers, has purchased 12 customized dehumidification systems from Munters Corp. for removing heavy water from the reactor buildings of the Pickering Nuclear Power Station.

Heavy water is a valuable commodity for the Candu nuclear reactors designed by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL). Munters (www.munters.com) vapor recovery systems remove heavy water vapor from the air, and condense it to liquid. The system also reduces the tritium radiation levels in the plant, and also those released to the environment, making the reactor safer for workers and the community.

Munters first supplied four such dryers for the first reactor being overhauled in the spring of 2000, and has now been awarded the contract for all of the four reactors being overhauled.

"This order is the result of a complete team effort between the project management, service and sales groups in Munters. It fits in line with our Key Accounts' strategy of focusing on developing long term relationships with core customers," said Scott Haynes, National Key Accounts Group Manager. "After OPG's experiences with Munters persistent attention to details on the first project, we became the only logical choice for the next phase of the project."

There are currently 22 Candu reactors in Canada and another 10 worldwide.

Munters is a leader in the global niche market and a provider of products and services for humidity control in industrial, commercial, residential and agricultural applications. Munters dominates the humidity control business with a global market share of between 50 percent and 70 percent within its niches. Its operations are focused in four niche areas: Dehumidification (DH), Moisture Control Services (MCS), HumiCool (Evaporative Cooling/Humidification), and Mist Elimination/Water treatment.
