National Textile Annual Forum featuring Milliken president

Tom Malone, president and COO of Milliken & Company, will be the opening speaker for the 10th Annual National Textile Center (NTC) Forum in Charlotte, N.C., Feb.10-12.

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Tom Malone, president and COO of Milliken & Company (www.milliken.com), Spartanburg, S.C., will be the opening speaker for the 10th Annual National Textile Center (NTC) Forum in Charlotte, N.C., Feb.10-12.

Dr. Malone will share his perspective on the contributions of the NTC over the last 10 years as well as his view of the future of the textile industry in the USA. Milliken & Company is one of the world's largest privately held textile and chemical manufacturers, and a manufacturer of residential and commercial carpeting.

Other featured speakers at the NTC Forum include: Dr. James Baker, President, Clemson University. Dr. Baker will be the keynote speaker at the NTC Forum Awards Banquet, Feb. 11.

Mary Lynn Damhorst is an Associate Professor, the Department of Textile & Clothing, Iowa State University. She will discuss her research on media and family influences on self-image as well as work on consumer use of technology for shopping.

Garrison Cottrell, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science Engineering, University of Calif., San Diego. Cottrell has been using neural networks as a computational model applied to problems in cognitive science and artificial intelligence, engineering and biology.

The theme of this year's Forum is ``Science Makes America Work.'' The National Textile Center Research Consortium is the premier research organization of the textile industry. The centerpiece of the Forum is an extensive exhibition of its scientists' 50 current research programs.

Over 10 years, the NTC consortium has grown from four universities to eight. At the 2002 Forum, NTC will welcome two new schools, Cornell University and University of California. These schools will join Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Philadelphia University and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the NTC research program.
