Nationwide Janitor Fast to Take Place; Justice For Janitors 2001 Prepares to Launch

Janitors across the United States are preparing to participate in a 24-hour long fast in honor of Justice for Janitors 2001.

The Justice for Janitors 2001 campaign unites 20,000 workers across the Mid-Atlantic Region, from the Northern New Jersey suburbs of N.Y., the Philadelphia suburbs, Baltimore, and Southern Montgomery County, Md. Workers who maintain 5,000 office buildings are joining together with three Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Justice for Janitors started in 1985 in Denver. SEIU currently represents more than 185,000 building service workers, making SEIU the largest building service union in the country. With 1.4 million members, SEIU is the largest union in the AFL-CIO.

With 1.4 million members, SEIU is the largest and fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO, the largest union of immigrant workers, the largest health care union, largest building service union, and second largest union of public employees.
