New Floors Start New Homes on the Right Foot

(May 18, 2004 - Manchester, NH)-(featureXpress) -- - Today's red-hot real estate market and low interest rates mean that many Americans will be stepping into new homes by the summer, giving them the perfect opportunity to replace old or worn flooring. Experts agree that the best time to re-floor a home is before moving all the furniture in.

In addition to being practical, a new floor can totally change the feel of each room, reflecting the personality and style of the new owners. Flooring is often called 'the fifth wall' because it's one of the first things you notice when entering a room. Updating the flooring is a great way to give a fresh look to your new home.

A key consideration in choosing a new floor is the kind of use the flooring will get. Before buying, homeowners should first consider the level of traffic the room will get, determine how often the surface will need cleaning, and decide on the desired mood or style for the room.

There are a wide variety of choices among the five basic categories of floor coverings, including soft coverings such as carpeting and area rugs, and hard coverings such as hardwood, vinyl laminates and ceramic tile, according to Deb Binder, Vice President of Marketing for Flooring America, a national flooring retailer. "Wood flooring evokes rich, warm, cozy feelings, whereas carpeting makes a room calm and quiet by absorbing sound. There are also a wide range of new technology-inspired textures and finishes for a more modern look," Binder added.

She explained that although the range of colors, styles and types of flooring may seem overwhelming, buying new flooring can be fun as long as you're armed with the right information.

The reliability of your flooring supplier and installer is another important consideration. "Look for a large selection of options, a knowledgeable staff, and a full satisfaction guarantee to make it easy and enjoyable to choose the perfect floor for every room in your new home," Binder said. "The last thing you need when moving into your dream home is quality or service problems with your new floors."
