Organizations call for industry-wide concrete vapor testing

The leading organization of floor covering distributors and the largest floorcovering contractor cooperative have endorsed an industry-wide effort calling for independent concrete moisture vapor testing.

The leading organization of floor covering distributors and the largest floorcovering contractor cooperative recently endorsed an industry-wide effort calling for independent concrete moisture vapor testing.

The Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI), the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI), the National Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD), and the StarNet Commercial Flooring Cooperative recently gave their support to the initiative.

Original proponents of the proposal, Position Statement on Moisture Emission Testing, include the Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association (FCICA), the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI), the Floor Installation Association of North America (FIANA), the International Society of Cleaning Technicians (ISCT) and the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA).

"We now have virtually the entire floor covering industry unanimously proposing a common sense approach to a problem that has plagued our industry for years," said Gary Wasmund, chairman of the Ad Hoc Industry Task Force, the group that organized the project.

Traditionally in building industry practice, floor covering installers, dealers and contractors have been held accountable for testing of moisture emissions in concrete and the satisfactory installation of floor covering on this material. The Ad Hoc Task Force recommends independent agencies perform concrete moisture vapor emission testing.

The complete text of the Position Statement on Moisture Emission Testing along with Moisture Emission Testing -- Responsibility and Qualifications for Testing is available by contacting the WFCA at 2211 East Howell Ave., Anaheim, CA, 92806.
