“Jim and Lisa published a powerful article last year about the state of training in the industry,” notes RSA Manager Brandon Burton. “Their discussion about the current lack of textile specialist training available in the industry and their proposed fixes to the problem convinced us that they were the perfect choice to design a superior level of training for RSA.”
Both are second-generation owner/managers in the industry and long-time instructors in their respective fields. Jim is the President of Pembertons Cleaning and Restoration Supplies, and Lisa is an owner of K. Blatchford’s Oriental Rug Cleaning, Repair & Restoration in California.
According to Jim, “There is a void in our industry. No one is training people to be fine fabric specialists, and there is little being taught about the new challenges specialists face in the 21st century. They are learning the enough basics to stay out of trouble, but they are not receiving the education they need to excel in the craft. That is the void I want to fill with this training.”
Lisa adds, “The rug courses offered today are either inadequate, inconvenient, or simply too expensive. This project with RSA gives us the opportunity to get practical, powerful and affordable textile education to a wider audience of professionals in a way they can immediately understand and implement confidently.”
The first textile training courses will be offered online this spring. For more information about RSA and their current course calendar, please visit www.RestorationSciencesAcademy.com.
