3M Names McNerney CEO

Hartford, Conn. (Reuters) -- W. James "Jim'' McNerney Jr. has been named CEO of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., also known as 3M. The 51-year-old McNerney was previously president and chief executive of Evendale, Ohio-based GE Aircraft Engines, the world's biggest maker of aircraft engines with 1999 revenues of $10.6 billion.
He also served as president of GE Asia-Pacific and president and CEO of GE Lighting during his 18 years at GE, the diversified conglomerate based in Fairfield, Conn.
