ASCR cancels State of the Art Conference

September 17, 2001
Despite an earlier decision to continue with business as usual, the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR) has cancelled its State of the Art conference, slated for this weekend.

MILLERSVILLE, Md. ---- The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR) has cancelled its State of the Art conference, which was scheduled for Sept. 20-23, at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.

ASCR had planned to go on with the event, but the continued danger to travelers and the closing of numerous airports across the country necessitated its cancellation.

A new date for the seminar has not been established at this time.

"Despite our best intentions to hold the event, it is impossible to go forward based on the terrorist threat, FAA decisions and the real threat of war," said ASCR Executive Director Larry Jacobson. "We are certain the decision to cancel is the only option left to us given the circumstances in which we have all been placed."

The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration is a professional association comprised of more than 1,300 member organizations representing over 20,000 cleaning and restoration professionals that specialize in the cleaning, treatment and repair of damaged buildings and their contents.
