Atiyeh Donates Antique Rug to Historical Society
June 28, 2000
Former Oregon governor, Victor Atiyeh, presented the Oregon Historical Society with a 19th Century Haji Jalili Tabriz Oriental rug at an opening celebration in April for a yearlong exhibit commemorating the Atiyeh family’s 100 years in the rug business. The Tabriz, valued at $120,000, will be on display through April 1, 2001 at the Historical Society, located in Portland. Atiyeh Bros., Inc., the oldest rug and upholstery cleaning operation in Oregon, was founded by Syrian immigrants Aziz and George Atiyeh in 1900 and includes two rug and carpeting retail stores in the Portland area. Atiyeh International Ltd., a worldwide wholesale company based in Yamhill County, OR, continues the Atiyeh tradition of rug importing.
