Better Business Bureau sues carpet cleaner

July 20, 2001
The Better Business Bureau filed a lawsuit against Master Carpet Care, Inc. for the carpet cleaner’s alleged use of bait-and-switch tactics targeted at the elderly and poor.

The Better Business Bureau accused Master Carpet Care of misleading customers with coupons that advertised cheap prices. Once cleaners completed a cleaning, the company would pressure clients to pay 10 to 20 times more than the advertised price.

The head of the consumer protection group expressed concern that this practice would create an unfair and unlawful market for carpet cleanings.
