CFI Bakersfield chapter slates nonprofit carpet cleaning event for the elderly, house-bound, disabled and disadvantaged.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Central California chapter of the Carpet & Fabricare Institute (CFI) is looking for member carpet cleaners and community nominations, for the first annual Operation Carpet Care-ing, slated for Nov. 10.

Professional carpet cleaners from around the Southern San Joaquin Valley will offer their services at no charge to the elderly, shut-ins, disabled or disadvantaged who are unable to afford professional carpet or upholstery cleaning, but need it.

The program's emphasis will be providing clean and healthy carpet and upholstery for those who are at risk in an environment that can breed germs, bacteria and viruses.

To add to the safety nature of the program's target clients, the Bakersfield Fire Department will donate smoke detectors or fire safety kits, which the Cleaners will install at each location, at no charge. Cleanway Sanitary Supply will provide cleaning products and carpet spotting kits free of charge to each residence cleaned.

The Saturday event will begin at 9 a.m. at the administrative offices of New Advances for People with Disabilities (NAPD),1115 22nd Street, where a rally will be held until 10 a.m. Speakers on top come from CFI headquarters; local, county and state officials and representatives from the nonprofit organizations will offer words of encouragement to the cleaning firms.

Some 15-20 trucks will then form a caravan through downtown Bakersfield before being dispatched to their job sites. Carpet cleaners willing to help should contact Gene Spinozzi at Cleanway Sanitary Supply (661) 328-0320. Community nominations for cleaning should be directed to the United Way (661) 325-9423.

The event is being sponsored by the Central California Chapter of CFI to demonstrate a "caring" about their community and the people that live here. CFI will work with the community and a number of non-profit organizations to determine those who will benefit the most from the free services.

The Carpet & Fabricare Institute (www.carpet9.org) is a western Region Association of Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners committed to professionalism and ethical standards of doing business. They operate by a code of ethics, which has been accepted and signed by all members of the association.
