CFI President Matt Sanders
recently announced a leadership summit to be held in early 2009. This meeting
is intended for all past and present directors, past presidents, and current
members to help create a new strategic vision for CFI. Check the CFI Web site

The annual members GIVE BACK
volunteer carpet cleaning and Bar-B-Que will be at the Ronald McDonald House in
Palo Alto, Calif., Feb. 21, 2009. CFI has made a tradition of supporting Ronald
McDonald Houses, and would appreciate your participation in this worthy event.
Chapter News
Orange/Inland Empire
– New Chapter Director Graham Bedwell is planning his first chapter meeting to
be a mill tour of Royalty Carpet Mills in Irvine. Royalty is the largest
independent carpet mill in California, and has always been a great supporter of
the CFI. Technical and Claims
Manager Jim Hernandez and his staff will conduct an extensive and informative
tour. Date to be announced.
Central Coast
– “Lots of plans are in the works” is the word from Chapter Director Rick
Lewis, starting with a CFI member benefit “Advanced Two Day Hands On Upholstery
Class” just held December 4-5. A closed class available to CFI members only, it
was held at Lewis’s new facility, Lewis Carpet Cleaners, 92 East 21st Avenue in
San Mateo.
The next chapter meeting will be
in San Carlos, Dec. 10, from 6-9 pm. The topic and meeting location is to be
announced.
San Diego –
Nov. 5 saw a chapter meeting at Mission Janitorial, 2 Activity Road, in San
Diego. Guest speaker David Newman, who has been in the flooring industry for
over 25 years, shared the do’s and don’ts of flooring estimating, and what to
look out for when dealing with various types of floor coverings.
The San Diego breakfast meeting is
held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 am at The Original Pancake
House, 3906 Convoy St. in San Diego. Beginners and veterans are invited; just
pay for your own breakfast and network with other cleaners, restorers, rug
cleaners and suppliers. You can gain knowledge on what works and what doesn’t
in chemicals, marketing, procedures, machinery, etc. If you are new, come and

Arizona – New
Chapter Director Norma McCormick reports that her chapter is finishing up a
community service project for a non- profit group called Maggie’s Place, a home
for unwed mothers.
Nov. 11 was the kickoff of the CFI
Master Mind group, a breakfast meeting at the Roadhouse on 24th Street and
University in Phoenix. The meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of
each month at 7 a.m. Any and all are encouraged to attend for brainstorming on
any issues or problems they might be encountering.

Education Director Peter Sierck
will be instructing upcoming IICRC classes to be held at A+Plus Environmental Supplies, 13535

Sierck reports that the September
Moisture Mapping class held in Los Angeles was totally booked out, as was a
follow-up class in October. The CFI is looking to additional classes in the Bay
area and San Diego in early 2009. The course fees are reduced for CFI members.
