Handset offers off-network capabilities

Nextel Communications Inc., and Motorola, Inc., announce the launch of the Motorola i325 IS handset, a ruggedized phone that provides off-network communication capabilities.

The Motorola i325 IS offers Direct Talk, which allows users who are outside of the Nextel coverage area to manually transfer to a two-way, radio-to-radio communication mode with a range of up to six miles, depending on conditions.

The i325 IS is approved for use where flammable gas or vapors may exist, and meets military specifications for blowing rain, dust, shock, vibration, high and low temperatures and pressure, humidity and more.
