The Certification Board is the "technical arm" of IICRC. Its mission statement has three segments:
1. To maintain IICRC's contact with all segments of the carpet, upholstery, and restoration related industries;
2. To make use of the vast knowledge and technical expertise that the individuals within these industries can offer as resources and advisors to the IICRC; and
3. To constantly improve the IICRC course curricula and examinations in coordination with the Examinations and Standards Committees and the Technical Advisory Committees.
With a mission statement like this, you can see that IICRC is open to most anybody participating with us.
Membership for the Certification Board comes from our shareholders and directors. In addition, one representative from each IICRC-approved school has a vote, individuals approved by the Board of Directors - with proper written application, such as individuals, education groups and others deemed able by the board of directors to make a significant contribution to IICRC's mission - may qualify for membership, standing committee and technical advisory committee chairpersons.
Jeff Bishop chairs the Certification Board. Three division chairpersons assist Bishop. We call these positions division chairs because it would be very hard for one person to have all the technical knowledge needed to develop the certification categories.
The three divisions and their chairpersons for those divisions are, Inspection, Claudia Lezell; Cleaning, Bob Wittkamp; and Restoration, Joe Dobbins. They work with the different committees for each certification categories. These committees are called Technical Advisory Committees (TACs). We currently offer 17 certification categories, each of which has a TAC.
TACs are responsible for maintaining and developing the curricula for the different IICRC certification categories. They continually keep apprised of changes in the industry and the scientific community, and make appropriate changes to the curriculum and the exams. These committees are never done with their work. Thanks to the Internet, the committee members are able to get a lot of work done in between meetings. They come to meetings better prepared, and do a final review before they present the final product to the board.
I would like to introduce these volunteer chairpersons to you. As I stated, Claudia Lezell works with all of the chairpersons related to the Inspection Categories. They are: Mark Violand, Senior Carpet Inspector; Lou Sweigert, Wood and Laminate Flooring Inspector; Christopher Capobianco, Resilient Flooring Inspector; Libby Longstreth, Substrate/Subfloor Inspector; Fred Hueston, Marble and Stone Inspector; and Robert Daniels, Ceramic Tile Inspector.
Bob Wittkamp works with all the cleaning related categories. The chairpersons are: Bill Yeadon, Carpet Cleaning Technician; Doug Bradford, Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician; Carey Vermeulen, Upholstery and Fabric Technician; Barry Costa, Carpet Repair and Reinstallation; Jack White, Color Repair Technician; and Bill Griffin, Floor Care Technician.
Joe Dobbins works with all of the restoration related categories. The chairs are: Sid Lunday, Water Restoration Technician; Dan Bernazzani, Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician; Tony Macaluso, Odor Control Technician; Jim Holland, Health and Safety Technician; and Joe Dobbins, Applied Structural Drying.
These are only the chairpersons; there are many more committee members working behind the scenes. I do not want to take any credit away from them. I mention the chairpersons here because they get the credit or the blame when things go right or wrong.
