Johnson Wax Professional to buy Butcher’s

September 15, 2000
Johnson Wax Professional signed a letter of intent to purchase Butcher’s, manufacturer of floor care, dilution control and commercial cleaning products. Butcher’s, headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., is a family owned, 120-year old company. Butcher’s has approximately 325 employees and has about 90% of its sales in North America, with the remainder of sales principally in Europe and Japan. In addition to manufacturing and marketing under its brand name, Butcher’s also manufactures and markets the Ramsey brand, a provider of carpet care and commercial cleaning products, and Magee/Midland, a supplier of coatings for commercial wood care and a contract packager for specialty cleaners and related industry products.

Johnson Wax Professional stated that Butcher’s strong presence in the health care and education segments would complement the Johnson market position and aid in its global growth plan. Johnson Wax Professional announced that no specifics of the sale would be announced because the company is still negotiating the final purchase.
