February 9, 2005
CALHOUN, Ga. - The Mohawk Group announced the acquisition of Wayn-Tex Inc., a carpet-backing manufacturer with a plant in Hillsville, Va.

"Wayn-Tex has been a major supplier of carpet backing to Mohawk," said Jeff Lorberbaum, Mohawk's chairman and CEO, in a news release. "They have earned a reputation as a solid manufacturing organization for quality, service and value. We look forward to welcoming their employees into the Mohawk family and becoming a part of these communities."

Wayn-Tex employs about 550 people at facilities in Hillsville and Waynesboro, Va.

Mohawk, a leading supplier of commercial and residential flooring based in Georgia, had a strong 2004. The company reported record earnings per share in the first two quarters last year.

In November, Mohawk announced the expansion of its yarn manufacturing facility in Bennettsville, S.C., which would increase the number of employees at that facility from 600 to 900.
