MSPCA Marks Silver Anniversary With Golden Opportunity

March 8, 2001
The MSPCA's upcoming Convention and Trade Show is one event not to be missed.

The MSPCA board of directors met recently at the newly opened Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth, Va.—location of the MSPCA’s 25th Annual Convention & Trade Show. The hotel is simply magnificent. You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity to stay in a five-star hotel for just $85 per night.

The view from each room of the hotel is simply beautiful. Downtown Portsmouth is very quaint with numerous shops, historic buildings, great restaurants and sports bars.

As you can imagine, the main topic of the board meeting was our upcoming convention. In addition to all the classes that will be offered, there are also plenty of things for spouses and family members to do. A shopping tour and lunch in Norfolk are planned for Thursday, free of charge thanks to E.L. Creech & Co., Inc., and Cleaners Closet.

For children, there is the children’s museum in Portsmouth and exciting ships to see. While there for the board meeting, we watched a submarine being pulled out through the river, and back down to the ocean. What a sight!

On Friday evening, we will celebrate the MSPCA’s 25th anniversary with a semi-formal banquet.

Admission to the trade show is free, and you can’t beat the deal on registration. Optional events include a golf tournament sponsored by Sun-Belt USA, a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, and of course, the new IICRC Floor Care Technician class. We have an additional benefit for everyone planning to attend the class. Expert Bill Griffin will be co-teaching along with Bob Merkt.

Both these gentlemen have been responsible for developing the book and the information for this class. This will be a great opportunity to be one of the first in your profession to get this certification. The reference manual is worth the registration fee alone. It will be a valuable tool for years to come. Forget that $100 job and take the step to plan your future. The presenters will provide you with enough information to make 10 times what you would have if you had stayed at work.

Also discussed during our board meeting was possible pollution coverage for all of our members. We’ll be obtaining proposals for our March board meeting. Watch for upcoming details!

We are in the process of planning a joint tour with the New England Institute of Rug Cleaners (NEIRC). We are tentative set for Friday, July 20, 2001 to have a tour of Karastan in Eden, NC. Other plans for 2001 include a tour of Lee's Carpet in Glasgow, VA, a tour of RTI in Research Triangle Park, NC. Watch our web site our monthly newsletters for more information.

The nominating committee has presented the following slate of officers for the 2001-2002 year: President Al Bradham; 1st Vice President Jim Bynum; 2nd Vice President Lee King; Secretary Gil Whittington; Treasurer Dan Taylor; Directors Doug Johns, Robert Pettyjohn and Joe Choplin; and Associates Directors Gayle Drummond and Steve Boyette.

If you need rooms or still haven’t registered, please contact the MSPCA office at (800) 827-2278.
