New recommendation for wool carpet maintenance chemicals

Wools of New Zealand has withdrawn the pH 4.5-8.5 recommendation for cleaning chemicals for wool carpets and rugs, and is now endorsing the low alkalinity/low buffer recommendation used by The WoolSafe Organization, according to a statement from WoolSafe.

For a long time the recommendation for safe wool carpet and rug cleaning was based on a pH rule for the cleaning agents, first as pH 5.5-8.0, and later revised to pH 4.5-8.5. Research carried out in the United Kingdom and elsewhere showed that these recommendations were flawed and could lead to problems with color bleeding in wool carpets and rugs, according to WoolSafe.
